Dodder
Cuscuta epithymum
30
July 2006
Carline
Thistle was about to burst into life on
the
lower
slopes of Mill Hill, with
Dodder
recorded for the first time growing on Perforate
St John's Wort.
It
is a parasitic, leafless plant which lacks chlorophyll and gains its nutrition
from host plants, flowering July to September. It can spread by seeds though.
Reference
Although
recorded on the Lancing Ring meadows,
this is the first of my records for Mill Hill.
