Insects 15.09.06


Following the rain and with a northerly Strong Breeze (Force 5) the insect fauna was not expected to be great. The Ivy proved to be an attractant in the Butterfly Copse.

Hoverflies: Volucella zonaria (1), Myathropa florea (Occ), Marmalade Hoverflies Episyrphus balteatus (Occ), Drone Flies Eristalis (Freq).

Bees:  Honey Bees (Freq), Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Occ).

Wasps: Common Wasp  (Occ)

Butterflies: Speckled Wood (1), Comma (1), Red Admiral (3+), Whites (a few unid: Large White or Green-veined White)

Dragonflies: Southern Hawker (2), Common Darter (5+)

Flies: Greenbottles and other small black flies



Even the Fleabane was almost gone.
