Volumes are up to 280 pages long, illustrated with photographs and many maps and tables. Baseline coastal information is grouped into 10 chapters, starting with a general description of the region's key coastal features, followed by chapters on a variety of topics:
1. Introduction.
2. Geology and physical environment.
3. Terrestrial coastal habitats.
4. Marine and estuarine environments.
5. Important species.
6. Archaeology and human history.
7. Coastal protected sites.
8. Land use, infrastructure and coastal defences.
9. Human activities (including fisheries, dredging, waste disposal, and leisure and tourism).
10. Coastal management.
