The
River
Adur has its source in the South Downs,
southern England and cuts its way through the soft chalk to its mouth.
At
low tide the River Adur cuts a
narrow fast running channel through the mud flats in the middle of Shoreham-by-Sea
as it rushes out to sea through the two long piers that mark the entrance
to Shoreham Harbour.

Two Images from the Presentation
The river is interesting at mid-tide when half the mud flats are revealed. The mud flats become a roost for gulls and other birds, especially during the winter. Waders and birds on the mud include Ringed Plover, Dunlins and Lapwing, which are all commonly seen in the colder months. Redshanks sound the first warning at the anticipation of danger. Boats and wooden posts are occupied by Cormorants fanning their wings after feeding on eels and flatfish.
A
Presentation for Schools
by
NB:
A small correction was made on 3 September 2013 and users are recommended
to download the new versions.
The
very latest version includes the opening of the Adur Ferry Bridge.
Images only licenced for educational and private use. Commercial use is not permitted.
The file downloads as a Zip
file and needs to be uncompressed as a Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 presentation
Please be patient. This
is a large file and may a two minutes or more to download.
The test download took 100
seconds.
It
is recommended after downloading the Zip file, the Powerpoint file is then
extracted to a separate folder before viewing.
A anomaly
has been discovered for people using later versions of Powerpoint 2007
and 2010 reading Powerpoint files created in Powerpoint 2003.
The
original file has now been saved as a Powerpoint 2007 format to enable
it to be read in later versions of Powerpoint.
This
new version can be downloaded by pressing the blue
button below.
Extended
versions with video files are available on request from schools
If
in doubt of which version to upload, please click on the blue
button immediately above this text.
Alternative Viewing (One Drive)
I have found using Internet Explorer under Windows 7 you will need to open the zipped file rather than save it to access the Powerhead presentation
Powerpoint 2003 compatible version
Schools can request a copy on DVD or pen stick.
Emergency Link for a version (videos will not work)
If you have any problems downloading or viewing the file, please send an Email by clicking on the button below:
The
video version requires both Windows Media Manager and Quick Time installed
on the computer to run the videos
