Skipjack Tuna

A 50 cm long Skipjack Tuna, Katsuwonus pelamis (=Euthynnus), was discovered stranded up dead on Par Beach, Cornwall. This is a rarely caught species around the British Isles, with the nearest fishery in the Bay of Biscay.

11 June 2019
A Pygmy Sperm Whale, (V) Kogia breviceps, was washed ashore dead at Ginst Point in Carmarthenshire, SW Wales. It was in good condition and will be examined in London. This whale is a rare vagrant around the British Isles.
