Common
Frog spawn reported by Helen
Swyer to have been laid in excess abundance
this year. A couple of pints were transferred to my close-by garden pond.
No spawn was laid in my small pond this year.

No signs
of any adult Frogs
but two clumps of frog spawn
have appeared in my small front garden pond. This did not happen last year.
The last record of frog spawn
dates back to 2006.
(The pond was dug in 2004.)

was the first sign of a Cowslip
flower in my front garden in Corbyn Crescent, Shoreham.

My
first Common Frog
of 2008 was seen
just before 7:00 pm,
in darkness, on my front doorstep in residential Shoreham,
a few metres from my small pond. The frog
was a juvenile and not a full grown adult frog. Frogs in
Sussex are assumed to hibernate during the winter, although in all the
mild winters this millennium, the hibernation period may have been brief.

the numerous cat
population, there were still a couple of Robins
on the west side of Corbyn Crescent, Shoreham.

healthy young Red Fox
ran across the pavement on the west side of Corbyn Crescent before entering
the front garden of number 8 after dusk.

The
black
cat from downstairs chased a Common Frog
which squealed when pawed. I helped the Frog to hide under the Privet hedge
in my front garden.

small pyralid moth
fluttered around my small pond in my front garden
in Corbyn Crecent, Shoreham. It was Pyrausta
aurata, the Mint
Moth.

Brown Apple Moth Epiphyas
postvittana settled in my Garden Privet
hedge in my front garden in Corbyn Crecent,
Shoreham.

Water
Mint appeared by the duck-weeded covered
small pond in my front garden in Corbyn Crecent.
It probably occurred a few days earlier.

A
Red
Admiral Butterfly was seen in Corbyn Crescent,
Shoreham. And I was surprised to see the grey form of a Sparrowhawk
flying over the rooftops to the area with trees in the back gardens of
the houses in the central area, but the raptor did not settle and was seen
immediately afterwards flying north.

fluttered across the road outside my gate in Corbyn Crescent, Shoreham.

on the roof of my house in Corbyn Crecent, in residential

was found dead with a squashed head in Corbyn Crescent.

a back garden Buddleia
next to the twitten between Corbyn Crecent
and Adelaide Square there were two Meadow
Brown
Butterflies, a Peacock
Butterfly and a Red
Admiral. Later, a Small
White Butterfly fluttered into my front
garden and a Large White
flew over the road. In the early evening a Gatekeeper
fluttered over vegetation in the twitten.

and Adelaide Square.

have just been seen on the roof of my house
in Corbyn Crecent, in residential
Shoreham,
two on the central chimney of out semi-detached block, and two about to
have sex on the ridge, at 8:42 pm.

was surprised by a male Meadow Brown Butterfly
that settled in my small front garden in Corbyn Crecent, in residential
Shoreham.

healthy young Red Fox
ran across the road outside by front house running from the front garden
of number 14 a minute before midnight.
A
smaller worker Buff-tailed Bumblebee,
Bombus
terrestris, visited the Spotted
Deadnettle introduced to my front garden especially
to attract the bees, bumblebees
and hoverflies.
A
Slow
Worm basked on the tarmac twitten
between Corbyn Crecent and Adelaide Square, until it was quickly disturbed
by the passage of people.

In
the shade of my north-facing garden (after the rain), just outside my front
door (in my garden in residential Shoreham),
one inkcap species
Coprinus
plicatilis appeared as it does in most years.
Later a smaller brown mushroom was seen next to it which was the same species
as it changed appearance over the next four days.

postvittana fluttered amongst the
grass. This species is really too common to be worth a mention.

rufa, visited my garden in residential Shoreham.

was a lot of buzzing in my front garden in residential Shoreham, with my
first female Spring (Hairy-footed)
Flower Bee of the year that visited the flowering
Rosemany
and exceeded the buzzing of the queen Buff-tailed
Bumblebee which buzzed around elsewhere.

my town garden pond, an adult Smooth
Newt swam
out from under a rock. The water disturbance and the glimpse was fleeting.

spotted a Stickleback
through a gap in the Duckweed
in the flooded small pond and the Water Snails.
The
garden was muddy and slippery.
