White Butterflies were seen amongst
the flowering Sea Kale
on Shoreham Beach and Holly Blues were
seen in sunny Shoreham.

An
afternoon visit to the lower slopes of Mill Hill produced the first dozen
Adonis
Blue
Butterflies of the year over the peak
swathes of Horseshoe Vetch,
with frequent Common Blue Butterfles
and Small Heaths,
and at least one each of Brimstone,
Green-veined
White,
Speckled
Wood and Peacock.
There
was a possible Brown Argus by
the southern steps.
A
Holly
Blue was spotted in Shoreham town.

My
first of the year white butterflies
and first male Common Blue Butterfly
were seen on the flowering Hawthorn
lined Downs Link from Old Shoreham to the Cement Works. I also spotted
my first Great Red Damselfly.
Horseshoe
Vetch could be seen flowering on Mill
Hill from down by the River
Adur.

female Orange-tip Butterfly landed
on a young Garlic
Mustard flower in Monkmead
Woods, West Chiltington.

Tree, Garlic Mustard, Coombes Road
With
the middle of the day sun, out came the butterflies, notably Orange-tips
and Peacocks
on the Waterworks Road, Old Shoreham. and a Brimstone
Butterfly over Eastern Avenue, residential
Shoreham. Hawthorn,
Cow
Parsley and Garlic
Mustard were beginning to flower.

Mill
Hill was muddy with standing water on the southern steps down to the lower
slopes where small amounts of Horseshoe
Vetch were budding. I only made a cursory
visit as my faulty balance could not cope with the slippery slopes on a
cloudy afternoon.
